Three High Court judges sworn

Georgetown : Justices Naresh Harnanan, Sandra Kurtzious and Navindra Singh took the oath before President Donald Ramotar today as newly appointed judges, vowing to uphold the constitution in their new functions.

President Donald Ramotar in brief remarks expressed the hope that the new appointments will also have a profound impact on the timeliness and court cases since “justice delayed is justice denied.” “I look forward to hard work and trying to ensure that… people will not be incarcerated for a long time, President Ramotar said.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall who joined Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag) Carl Singh and Chief Justice (ag) Ian Chang to witness the installation was asked by media operatives about the appointment of more criminal judges to expedite trials.

“I have no doubt that once the need is recognised for an additional judge on the criminal circuit that one of possibly these judges or one of the existing judges will be assigned to increase the complement of judges dealing with the assizes,” Minister Nandlall said.
