Port-of-Spain: The country has recorded three murders in the last 24 hours. This now brings to nine the number of people murdered in the 19 days since the State of Emergency began.
However, the authorities have been reporting success in keeping the once out of control murder rate down. This morning ASP Joanne Archie revealed that since the State of Emergency and curfew there had been eight murders . However, between Thursday afternoon and today the country in fact recorded three murders among them the killing of a woman.
In the first incident around 1:30 on Thursday afternoon, 33 year-old Jason Munroe was at his MI Trace El Socorro home, when a man he is believed to have known entered and began chopping him several times before fleeing the scene. Munroe was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex where he died on arrival.
Hours later around 7:15 pm, Claxton Bay resident Nirmal Baldeo, was found dead in a car on 7th Street, Dow Village, Claxton Bay. Residents on 7th Street informed investigators that a white wagon drove into the area and stopped with a man running out of the car, leaving the engine running and the headlights on.
The police was called in and upon checking found 30-old Baldeo in the back seat with his throat slit.
Baldeo would have celebrated his 30th birthday on Friday .
Police have since detained a man for questioning.
Around midday today the body of 36-year-old Suhani Ramsundar was discovered at her Teelucksingh Street, East Claxton Bay home. Investigators say the woman’s son reported that he left his parents at home around 8 am and when he returned to the house, he found his mother lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
He later realised her throat had been slit. Investigators are now searching for a close male relative in connection with the killing. Police believe the murder resulted from a domestic dispute. Ramsundar was a Guyanese national.
