Three suspects in police custody after fatal shooting

Antigua : Charges are looming over the heads of three men allegedly linked to Friday night’s killing and robbery of 54-year-old Shenfield “Zyer” George.

Police said one suspect, who resides at Parham, turned himself in hours after the incident had occurred in Bolans, opposite Bolans Primary School.

A second suspect of Donovans surrendered, accompanied by a lawyer after police issued a wanted bulletin for him.

Lawmen also picked up a third man whose address was not revealed.

The victim’s grieving mother, Laurel George, said she is glad to know the police seem to be on the case, although it would not erase the pain she feels.

“I want the people who did this terrible thing to our family to be brought to justice. They’ve left a mother without a son and he has two children and a wife in St Croix,” she cried.

“Don’t people care anymore?”

The woman said she was at her shop when she got the news her son had been attacked and shot shortly after 7 pm Friday.

The victim was shot multiple times and robbed of his jewellery, to include a gold chain. He reportedly tried to wrestle with them and to escape and it was then the perpetrators opened fire.

Witnesses said the attackers fled on foot but reports indicate they were driving around the area in a car for some time prior to the shooting. The vehicle in which they were travelling has been confiscated.

The killing brings the total number of homicides this year to eight.
