Bridgetown.
Barbados' Ambassador to China Sir Lloyd Sandiford, thinks the time is ripe for an acceleration of the cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at a dinner to commemorate the 35th anniversity of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Barbados and China, Sir Lloyd pointed out that while various efforts had contributed to the favourable relations between the two countries, they had no major transformational impact on the fundamental state on the Barbados economy.
"Hence my insistent and realistic call for a deeper and more systemic engagement on the part of our two countries. Thirty years represents a significant anniversary for reviewing where we have come from, and where we want to go", Sir Lloyd said.
The former Prime Minister said that while the volume of trade between Bridgetown and Beijing has been growing, the trade deficit is too wide.
