Georgetown: Following a very successful workshop on Handcrafting Steel Pans, the Tina Insanally Foundation Monday (12th August 2013) at 9:00hrs launch another workshop at its headquarters in the Guyenterprise Building, Irving & Lance Gibbs Streets.
The aim of this workshop is to enable music teachers to develop and deliver a music curriculum and work plan for children. The facilitator is well-known Guyanese musician and teacher Derry Etkins who is currently teaching music at St. George’s School, Tortola, British Virgin Isles.
The workshop will run from August 12th to 21st from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs each week day. Fourteen (14) persons from several organisations and locations have been selected to attend.
The Workshop was made possible with assistance from Ministry of Culture who covered Mr. Etkins’ travelling expenses; the Cultural Centre of the Inter-American Development Bank who provided overall funding and Cara Lodge who kindly offered to provide refreshments for the event.

There will be a closing ceremony with presentation of certificates on Wednesday, 21st August 2013 at 14:00hrs. Minister Frank Anthony and the IDB Guyana Representative are expected to attend.
George Deryck Rodwell ETKINS is a Guyanese musician who currently lives and teaches at St. George’s School, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
He has over 33 years’ experience in teaching music at the Primary and Secondary level, preparing choirs and instrumental ensembles for various events. He has been involved in Music Curriculum development at Primary, Secondary and Post-Secondary levels. He has received several awards for his contribution to Music and Music Education in Barbados and his native Guyana.
