Bridgetown.
The CLICO issue has been wrappped up in myths by the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP), this view was expressed by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at mass meeting held by the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) in last night.
The Prime Mnister said that one of the biggest myths is that there are 30,000 policy holders in Barbados.
"There are not 30,000 CLICO policy holders in Barbados. There never have been 30,000 policy holders in Barbados. At most there is 14,000 to 15,000 policy holders in Barbados. That figure of 30,000 refers to policy holders throughtout the region ", Stuart said.
He told those gathered at the meeting that as a policy holder he had placed the interest of Barbadians and regional policy holders before his own, by refusing to accept the reimbursement of his invested funds.
"I have been written, not once but more than once and told come for my money the fruits of my investment. I have refused to take it because I have said that if other investors and policy holders are out there in a state of uncertainty, I have a duty as Prime Minister to lead by example and therefore my money is there", Stuart said.
"So I have a vested interest in making sure not only that the CLICO issue is resolved to the satisfaction of the people of Barbados and in the Eastern Caribbean, I have a vested interest because I am a CLICO policy holder and investors as well", he added.
