The number of road accidents in Barbados are a major concern for Minister of Health Donville Inniss.
Last year, 1701 people were admitted to the Accidents and Emergency of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, (QEH) Inniss says the number is to high.
According to the Minister, accidents victims takes up too much time and resources at the Orthopedics Department at the QEH and they also need rehabilitative services.
Inniss said the Cabinet was aware of the lawlessness, recklessness and danger on the road and it is for that reason the Prime Minister has formed and chairs the Barbados Road Safety Council.
Speaking at the of the No Thumbing Barbados Campaign at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday, Inniss said: "We have seen too many road accidents that are not only causing lives but also causing great disruption to families and we believe that some must be done to made drivers aware of the problems they are creating on the road".
