Top Cop receives “Visionary Man of the Year” award

Georgetown: In recognition of his contributions to law enforcement Commissioner of Police Leslie James was the recipient of the “Visionary Man Of The Year” award that was bestowed upon him recently by United Bridge Builders Mission Inc. (UBBM).

British High Commissioner to Guyana, Greg Quinn and Chief Executive Officer of Food For The Poor (Guyana) Mr. Kent Vincent were also recipients of awards for the Most Influential Activist and International Humanitarian Service respectively.

The simple but significant ceremony was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Quinn at their official residence and the awards were presented by the founder of the organization Ms. Bonita Montague.

The ceremony culminated with a cocktail reception hosted by the Commissioner of Police at the Police Officers’ Mess Annex, Eve Leary.

The UBBM is a local non-profit organization which began operations out of the USA, over twenty-six years ago.

Ms. Montague is also the CEO and a former policewoman who served the Guyana Police Force of over 19 years.

She said that the organisation aims to work with the Guyana Police Force in the areas of providing support to persons affected by HIV/AIDS, Empower women and youths in addition to advocating against domestic violence.

The founder said the awards are usually bestowed on individuals who would have served the communities in the various disciplines; Mr. Leslie James is the first Police Commissioner to receive such a prestigious award.

The local office of UBBM is located at lot 81 John Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.

Also in attendance were a few honorees such as Ms. Vanessa Kissoon; Ms. Florence Alilah-Bourn; Ms. Wendy Hermonstine; Ms. Bernadett Barker, Secretary of UBBM AND Mr. Lennox Mboya- wood, Director of UBBM.
