Maraval: Renown environmentalist Professor Julian Kenny has died.
The environmentalist who up until two months ago, served as chairman of the Environmental Management Authority, died at his Maraval home just after midday today.
He was 81 years old.
The exact cause of his death is not yet known. Professor Kenny served had a long and distingusihed career in public service and was known for his rigorous fight for the environment.
He was a zoologist by profession and was a retired Professor of Zoology at the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies.
He was also a columnist with a daily newspaper and served as a former independent senator in the fifth and sixth sessions of parliament from 1995 to 2001.
He is best known for his work on freshwater fish and anurans, and for his contribution to the conservation movement in Trinidad and Tobago.
In May of this year Professor Kenny quit as chairman of the EMA saying government was failing to effect much needed environmental changes.
Kenny leaves to mourn his wife and two children and two grandchildren.
