Tough choices

Bridgetown.

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler is appealing to Barbadians to support the decisions the Government is making to put the economy back on track.

Responding to whether there would be any fallout politically for the Democratic Labour Party Government from the CLICO issue and the escalating cost of electricity with elections constitutionally due in 2013.

Sinckler told Trackker News:" What the Prime Minister previous and current indicated and what I have said is that we are going to try our level best to insure that those person who invested in CLICO get back their principal".

On the question on the high cost of electricity Sinckler said, "The last Government subsidized both electricity and fuel (gasoline and diesel). It cost the country $200 million in less than a year, the high cost of fuel was unsustainable. If the Government subsidized the fuel and yet the citizens want every other tax cut  how is the country's going to function"? asked Sinckler.
