Tourism a 20 billion dollar industry

Bridgetown.

Caribbean countries earned over 20 billion US dollar from tourism last year.

This was revealed by the Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Hugh Riley.

According to Riley, the region welcomed more than 25 million stay over arrivals and 19.5 million cruise passengers.

Speaking at a high level meeting of the regional coordinating committee for the development of tourism satellite accounts at the CTO's office in the Warrens Baobab Towers, Riley said  called for more training and staff motivation to make the sector more sustainable.

Newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, in her address  stressed the importance of tourism satellite accounts known as TSA's and the need for governments of the region need to develop and enhance tourism databases.
