Truck crushes Albouystown man

Georgetown: Gansham Cooblall, a 60 year old pedestrian of Curtis Street, Albouystown was crushed Monday a sand filled truck GYY1980 rank over him at the junction of Houston Public Road and Nelson Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

Reports indicate that Cooblall walked across the road when the traffic police signaled the north bound traffic to proceed.

Eyewitness said that while the traffic was proceeding north from Houston Public Road, Cooblall was seen at the left side of the truck that began to move off onto Mandela Avenue. He was subsequently crushed.

An alarm was raised and the driver of the truck then reversed and in doing so he damaged the front of another truck GRR9016.

The pedestrian was later picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounce dead.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver which revealed no trace of alcohol in his system. The driver is in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.
