Port-of-Spain: Trinidad and Tobago is currently experiencing major communications problems as state-owned the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (TSTT) is reporting an equipment failure on its interconnect gateway.
The failure has effectively cut off calls from TSTT customers to other networks and service providers, including Digicel, which controls a significant chunck of the mobile telephone network.
The interconnect gateway enables customers to make and receive calls to other local mobile, fixed-line and international calling access service providers. The problem on the equipment developed earlier this morning and tstt has since engaged the assistance of its international vendor partner to expedite the necessary repairs and replacement of defective parts.
Due to the complexity of the problem TSTT says it cannot at this time confirm when interconnect gateway services will be restored however it is seeking to assure the country that every effort is being made to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
