Moruca River: Four people are missing and are now feared dead after a tug and barge sank in the vicinity of the mouth of the Moruca River Wednesday evening. Missing are Captain Vansluytman of Pomeroon, Capt DaSilva of Roden Rust, Essequibo, Michael Fredericks and Elliot Jackman.
Captain Vansluytman is the owner of the tug that sank while Da Silva is the owner of the barge.
The barge which was laden with an excavator and other mining equipment was enroute from Georgetown to Region One.
According to reports inclement which characterised the weather for the greater part of Wednesday resulted in poor visibility coupled with rough waters may have led to the unfortunate incident.
Reports reaching this publication are that an official search and rescue team has since been dispatched.
