Two arrested in crashed cocaine-laden Brazilian aircraft

Georgetown: A cocaine-laden Brazilian aircraft crash landed at Orealla, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Thursday in a savannah.

Toshao, Devir Lewsis said that the aircraft landed in a savannah near the airstrip in the village and next to where a road is being built. There were two men on board.

The Toshao said that it appears as though there is cocaine inside the aircraft as the village awaits the arrival of Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) ranks.

Reports indicate that the aircraft landed at about 14:00hrs after running out of fuel.

One eyewitness said that the two foreigners told residents that they were travelling and visiting several areas to do sport fishing and other leisure activity, but they encountered difficulty while in the air.

The two Brazilian pilots are in Police custody and the cocaine cargo has been confiscated as investigations continue.
