Former President of Guyana Bharrat Jagdeo and Jamaican Patricia Francis have been included in the 14-member Eminent Persons Group (EPG) whose mission will be to provide guidance and recommendations for the future of the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Grouping.
Jagdeo, 48, served as President of Guyana from 1999 to 2011 and Francis is the executive director of the International Trade Centre (ITC).
She had previously served as a member of the Eminent Persons group for the Commonwealth, a group created to examine options for reform of the Commonwealth’s many institutions.
The inauguration of the EPG took place during an extraordinary two day session of the ACP Council of Ministers that ended on Tuesday, where Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni was named to replace his Ghanaian colleague, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, as the new ACP Secretary General.
Chambas was recently nominated by the United Nations and the African Union as their Special Envoy for Darfur.
