Two senior citizens died in separate road accidents over the weekend

Georgetown : The police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday on the Industry Public Road, ECD, and which resulted in the death of pedestrian Ewart Ashby, 71 years, of Industry.

A police report stated that motor car PPP 7689 was proceeding along the roadway, when it is alleged by the driver that Ewart Ashby attempted to cross the road and was struck down by another vehicle and then by his vehicle. 

The driver of PPP 7689 is in police custody.

Meanwhile yesterday on the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara, the driver of mini-bus BNN 7851 attempted to overtake motor lorry GNN 5130 and collided with motor car PMM 1123 which was proceeding in the opposite direction. Following the collision, the motor lorry ran into the rear of the mini-bus.

76 year old Ramdularie Singh, who was in the mini-bus, received injuries and was taken to the GPHC where she succumbed while receiving medical treatment,.

The drivers of the three vehicles are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
