Two teens charged with murder of Dr. Colin Roach

Georgetown: Two teenagers were jointly charged on Tuesday in relation to murder of Dr. Colin Roach on the 2nd November, 2021.

At about 10:00 hours Tuesday 18-year-old Lenrick Byass and 19-year-old Hilton Oliver Junior Franklin were charged jointly for the offence of Murder in the course or furtherance of a Robbery.

The charge was laid under Section 100 (1) (c) (i) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

The accused (Byass and Franklin) appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate Court #1 before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Clennan where the indictable charge was read to both of them.

They were not required to plead and were both remanded to prison until 30th November, 2021 for report.

The two murder accused, Byass and Franklin, were both arrested by the Police on November 5th, 2021.

Lenrick Byass is an unemployed 18-year-old male of Lot 282 Good Intent Village, West Bank Demerara. Hilton Franklin is a 19-year-old taxi driver of Lot 27 Best Village, West Coast Demerara.

Police investigators, on Thursday last, recovered Dr. Roach’s Audi Q5 Sport Utility Vehicle with registration PXX 4000 at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, which was stolen after he was killed.

The 49-year-old physician was one of two doctors authorised to conduct medical examinations in Guyana for US immigrant visas. He also had a stint at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Many say he was an excellent doctor.

At his International Medical Clinic on Duke Street, Kingston, Dr. Roach’s body was found in his office by his employees. His face was severely damaged.

Franklin was reportedly identified as the prime suspect after CCTV video recordings from nearby buildings identified him leaving the doctor’s office on Tuesday night.

An autopsy done Friday last on Dr Roach’s body found that he died from multiple blunt trauma to the head.
