UNC internal elections postponed

Couva: Confirmation today from the chairman of the United National Congress Jack Warner that the party's internal election has been put off for at least two months.

The announcement comes just one day after former political leader Basdeo Panday announced he will lead a slate of candidates to run in the election.

Warner says part of the reason was due to the recently ended State of Emergency, which delayed the holding of the party's annual congress.

Minister Warner insists that the postponement has nothing to do with the return of Panday  to the political arena.

He says that Panday has failed to factor in to his return the fact that the post of political leader is not up for grabs in the election.
