Georgetown: The Mayor and Councillors of the City (M&CC) of Georgetown is expressing concern with the number of vacant lots in Georgetown that are unfenced, according to Public Relations Officer (ag) Debra Lewis.
“It has been observed that there are many vacant lots in the City that are not enclosed; these serve as a haven to persons who are social rejects,” she noted.
Also, Ms Lewis said some citizens take the opportunity to use these lots to dispose of refuse. The Council is urging property owners who have vacant lots that are unfenced to cooperate with the Municipality and have the lots properly fenced.
She explained that an unfenced lot is a contravention of the City- By-laws which states that the continuous boundary fencing shall be erected between all lots or parting of dividing lots owned by separate persons.
It further states that all fences erected shall not be more than (6) six feet or less than (3) three feet. Also, persons desirous of placing advertisements on their fences should seek the approval of the Council and no person shall erect a fence unless the City Council has approved the design of the fence and the materials to be used.
