Union boss says no to layoffs

Bridgetown.

There will be a labour war in Barbados if either political party or group seeks to use layoffs as a tool  to remedy the current economic problems.

That is the massage General Secretary of the Barbados Worker Union (BWU)  Sir Roy Trotman is sending to the poltical  parties and business sector  on the island.

Sir Roy the leader of oldest trade union on the island  says the BWU will not take kindly to the suggestions of privatization of several state intitution and possible mass layoffs.

The veteran trade unionist was critical of some economists whom he said had forgotten their roots and who will cut jobs in the civil service without regard for the social mayhem that will result.

"The BUW wish to state unequivocally that it considers as an enemy of the working class, any agency or political party which at this stage present a policy to reduce jobs either in the public or in the private sector", Sir Roy told Trakker News.
