BVI: The Royal Virgin Islands Police are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of persons responsible for the murder of Cardinal ‘Wolf’ Fahie.
Fahie was abducted from his home at Rogues Bay on the evening of Wednesday, 25 May 2011 and his body was found a short time later just after midnight the following morning on the road on Windy Hill. A post mortem examination revealed that he died from gunshot injuries. The car used by the deceased was later found abandoned on the hill above Johnsons Ghut.
A maximum of $100,000 will be given to the person with information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the persons responsible for the murder of Fahie. Lesser reward amounts will be paid for information that assists Police in advancing the investigation. Those amounts will be decided by the Commissioner of Police.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Alwyn James is hoping this anniversary appeal and the reward will bring about fresh leads into this case as information and intelligence have been limited.
“There was at least one other vehicle involved in the abduction and murder of Fahie. The police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Windy Hill area or travelling down Johnson Ghut Hill and saw Fahie vehicle’s along with another vehicle on the night of May 25. We need persons to come forward and do what is right,” he said.
Police is offering this reward for the first time since the new Justice Protection Act 2011, passed last year in the House of Assembly, is in place. The Act strengthens Police’s ability to protect witnesses with the support of the Government to ensure the safety of witnesses. The bill provides protection not just for witnesses but for jurors and any person designated in writing by the Attorney General.
Pastor Curnal ‘Hank” Fahie, the brother of Cardinal Fahie, is also making an appeal to the public for information to help in identifying those responsible for his brother’s murder.
“I join with my family in making a wholehearted plea to help us bring my brother assailants to justice. I am confident that Police have done all they can. In fact, they have done exceptionally well in their investigation thus far and they have kept us informed through the regular updates. They now need persons to come forward with information that can help put the pieces of this case together,” he said.
Persons with information are asked to contact any detective from the Major Crime Team on 468 2718. All information will be treated in complete confidence. Persons can also provide that information to the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 468-9339 or to the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline number 800-TIPS or 800-8477.
