A new Wartsila generator arrived in Guyana yesterday to replace a damage unit at Garden of Eden Power station.

Guyana Power and Light (GPL) divisional director of operations, Elwyn Marshall, who was on site to oversee offloading of the engine at the John Fernandes Warf, said that the 5.5 megawatt unit will be installed at the East Bank Demerara site.  The engine was procured at a cost of US$2.1M

By mid February, Marshall said the engine should be in full operation since it will be installed on the existing foundation.
The power generated by the Garden of Eden plant feeds the Demerara grid.
The absence of one engine at the Garden of Eden plant, he said did not create any fall short in the system, since backup systems were put in place to meet the demands of the Demerara grid.
