US$20M loan approved for Tertiary hospital

Georgetown: Valued at some US $20M, the Government of India has approved a soft loan, which will allow Guyana to commence construction of a Tertiary health care facility. Head of State President Bharrat Jagdeo made this disclosure on Monday revealing that construction is expected to start during the first quarter of next year.

The President had alluded to the facility in the past but revealed on Monday that “just two days ago we received notification from the Indian Government that they have approved the soft loan to fund the new hospital.”

The proposed facility, according to the President, will be constructed at Liliendaal, Greater, Georgetown. He revealed that the hospital will become part of what “we offer in the public health system but would allow Guyanese to access the best quality tertiary care that you can find anywhere in the world and at a fraction of the cost.”
