Georgetown: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported that is raised US$3.9 Billion [GYD $818.2 M] from its COVID-19 Partners Platform.
The platform is an online tool which enables countries to match needs with resources. It was developed as part of the WHO’s commitment to coordinating the global response to the novel coronavirus pandemic which has affected more than 188 countries worldwide.
In his media briefing, WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus explained that the “online tool enables countries to enter planned activities for which they need support, and donors to match their contributions to these activities.”
The Director-General noted also noted that the tool also comprises the COVID-19 Supply Portal, which enables countries “to request critical supplies of diagnostics, protective equipment and other essential medical provisions.”
To date 105 national plans were uploaded, and about 56 donors have entered their contributions, totalling US$3.9 billion.
The WHO has shipped more than five million items of personal protective equipment (PPE) to 110 countries and is in the process of shipping more than 129 million PPE items to 126 countries.
