Bridetown.
The Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies must produce graduates who can find the balance between leading a quality and bieng a quality person.
Archbishop of the West Indies and Anglican Bishop of Barbados Dr John Holder emphasized this point yesterday as he deliver the semon at an inter faith thanks giving service held at the St Mary Church Bridgetown to commemorate the campus' 50th anniversity.
Archbishop stated that at the center of life of university students was engagement in the process that helped them come to grip with who they and what special contribution they could make to this world.
He said that students attending the UWI should ask the question. :"Who am I or will I become I after my sojourn at the university?
"In this assessment we will not simply hear about degrees conferred and money spent to learn but rather how the institution has shaped those who passed through its its portals into better persons", Holder said.
The Archbishop a former principal of Codrington College which is affiliated to the UWI, told the congreation the Cave Hill Campus should be one that helped its students to understand the need for critical balance while consideration should also be given to what type of person was needed to take Barbados and region into the future.
The thanksgiving service was attended by Governor General Sir Elliot Belgrave, UWI chancellor Sir George Alleyne, vice chancellor, Dr Nigel Harris and principal of the Cave Hill Campus and pro vice chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles.
