Georgetown: The Ministry of Agriculture's Fisheries Department will be hosting a validation workshop on a project which is being funded by Eu via the ACP Fish II project, which has an aim to strengthen fisheries management in ACP States (African, Caribbean and Pacific States).
The aim of the validation workshop is to discuss the new Fisheries Management Plan (2013-2018) and to obtain feedback and comments from a representative of fisheries stakeholders. The Plan entails four individual management plans: artisanal fishery, shrimp trawl (prawns and seabob), snapper fishery, and shark fishery (despite it not being a distinct target fishery). There are other cross-cutting strategies in the Plan and they involve improving data collection systems, reduction of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and capacity building for the Fisheries Department.
Hon. Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, Minister of Agriculture will be delivering the feature address at this event.
DATE: Thursday, 13th June, 2013
TIME: 09:00hrs
Venue: The Grand Coastal Hotel, Le Ressouvenir.
