Venezuelan cook found murdered, dredge owner amongst two arrested

Georgetown: A miner and dredge owner was arrested after the beaten body of a female Venezuelan cook was found Sunday floating at ‘Big Hope’ Backdam, Cuyuni Region seven.

Dead is Dimas Emilia Lezama Fermin, 28, of San Phoenix, Venezuelan.

Reports indicate that the Venezuelan had been sharing a relationship with the dredge owner who on Saturday left the camp and allegedly left the cook preparing meals.

The dredge owner left with the workers and visited the landing where they began drinking alcohol at a shop and about 21:30 hours the miner allegedly left the gathering and related that he was going to take a bath.

Police said that the following morning about 06:30 hours the body of the Venezuelan was found floating in a pit behind their camp.

When police arrived on the scene the body was found clad in a blue jersey and without any underwear while there were multiple marks of violence were seen about her body.

Based on information received, police contacted and arrested the miner and the dredge owner who remain in custody and are assisting with the investigation.
