Georgetown- Police say they are trying to cope with the recent rise in crimes which according to statistics surpasses figures for the same period last year. During the past two weeks violent crimes claimed the lives of 11 persons most with the use of illegal firearms. One issue that escapes the attention of law enforcement is the ever prevailing scourge of domestic violence in which mostly women are the victims. For the year more than twenty females most of them between the ages of 17 to 23 succumbed to domestic attacks. Women Rights activists continue to implore on women who are victims of domestic abuse to report such acts, but the staggering amount of complaints they say is a far cry from the shocking reality. Statistics show high incidents of stabbing and rape in these attacks. There have been complaints by females in the past that the police would refer them to seek legal advice rather than take a complaint or investigate acts of abuse. Police say that while they concentrate on the increase in gun crimes and robbery, domestic deaths is an area of grave concern. The number of murders for the year has been recorded at over seventy so far.
