Visitors caught with cocaine at V.C Bird International Airport

St John's, Antigua

 A 71-year-old British man is now in police custody, after he was caught at the VC Bird International Airport over the weekend with six pounds of cocaine strapped to his body.

Vernon Marshall Dyer of Liverpool, England was caught with the class A drug after he attempted to board a Virgin Atlantic flight, VS#34, to England.

It was reported that while airport security was conducting routine security checks, they found the passenger with a utility belt strapped around his waist with a package concealed inside.

The matter was reported to the police, and officers from the Narcotics Department arrived on the scene and carried out a further search on his person.

Two other packages containing cocaine were found strapped to his thighs. Dyer is facing charges of possession and possession with intent to transfer, as well as drug trafficking. The drugs have a street value of $95,612.40.  

A Canadian woman was also apprehended at the airport yesterday afternoon after she too was caught with a large quantity of cocaine strapped to her body.

It was reported that the female passenger was about to board a flight to Canada when airport security came across the drugs strapped to her body.
