The Vice President made these comments in his address to the media on the side-lines of the first sitting of the National Assembly of the Twelfth Parliament of Guyana, which is being held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.

“It will be an aggressive agenda…In that Budget, you are going to see a lot of our manifesto promises fulfilled, although it’s an emergency Budget. We need to have a stimulus package ready for the Private Sector to resume economic activity,” Dr. Jagdeo said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Manzoor Nadir will serve as the Speaker of the Twelfth Parliament and Mr. Lenox Shuman, Deputy Speaker.

Dr. Jagdeo said the Government selected Mr. Nadir because of his experience and patriotism. “He has always been a nationalist and I think he has all the requisite skills,” the Vice President said.

During this morning’s session, estimates for constitutional agencies were presented. The National Budget is expected to be presented to the National Assembly next week, after the consideration of estimates for constitutional agencies later this week.
