Berbice : Acting on information received yesterday, police ranks arrested four men at a house at Tucberg, New Amsterdam, Berbice, one of whom was found in possession of an unlicensed .38 revolver with two rounds.
David Andrews, 31 years of Williamsburg, Corentyne, had jumped into the Canje Creek upon seeing the police but was pursued and caught. During the efforts to arrest him he had pointed the firearm in the direction of the rank who was pursuing him in the Creek, but the rank managed to overpower him and take away the weapon.
David Andrews was wanted by the police after he had escaped from custody at the Rosehall Police Outpost several months ago during investigations into robbery under arms. In addition, two commitment warrants have been issued for him by the Magistrate at Albion Magistrate Court after he was found guilty of trafficking in narcotics and robbery under arms in his absence. He had been sentenced to four years and three years imprisonment, respectively, on the two charges.
Investigations are continuing.
