The T&T women soca warriors were defeated by Ecuador in the World Cup qualifier at the Hasley Crawford Stadium last night.
Monica Quinterros gave Equador a 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago and secured the final spot in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The soft goal was scored in injury time.
History repeated itself last night when the women warriors emulated
their male counterparts 25 years ago on November 19,1989,when the “Strike Squad” lost 1-0 to USA failing to qualify for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
However, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesar praised the women warriors via a text message saying:
“We are filled with pride by your efforts today.
You have demonstrated how far we can go no matter how great the odds.
You are also an inspiration to
every young girl who can emulate your character,your spirit,your
ability to bring a nation together. I cannot describe how deeply moved
I am by your efforts as young women of Trinidad and Tobago.
Our nation salutes you all”.
