One person is now in the custody of the Gasparillo Police following the theft of an eight inch air valve belonging to the Water and Sewerage Authority (W.A.S.A.). On Monday the valve was stolen from W.A.S.A.’s Caroni South Transmission main. Today W.A.S.A.’s Corporate Communications Manager Ellen Lewis said the valve was found this morning at a house off School Trace in the Bonaventure area. She said a team of W.A.S.A.’S security officers acted on a tip off received earlier on this morning and when they arrived at the house they recovered two lengths of 20 inch pipes and metal fittings that were removed from the 54 inch transmission main. She thanked members of the public for their vigilance which lead to the apprehension of the culprit.
The theft which led to the loss of three million gallons of water left 200,000 customers with dry taps. While a new air valve was installed yesterday many customers are yet to receive a normal water supply. In a response to the situation Ms Lewis said that water should return to full service by 12 noon today and those customers should keep in mind their water schedules.
