Georgetown– The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has showered the West Indies team with praise following their recent triumphs over the visiting New Zealand team in the Digicel Twenty20 and Digicel One-day International series.
The Windies swept the two-match Digicel T20I series and were equally dominant in the Digicel ODI series with a 4-1 result, showcasing their superiority.
Dr. Julian Hunte, president of the WICB, issued a congratulatory message to the team in which he lauded the work of the side, as they rebounded from a tough tour of England.
“On behalf of the WICB and the people of the West Indies, I want to congratulate the West Indies team after their impressive performances against New Zealand in the Digicel T20I and Digicel ODI series,” he said. “The team played exceptionally well, and it has to be said that they richly deserved their success.
“Anyone watching could see the purposeful and determined approach from the West Indies. It was a total team effort, and it was refreshing to see the camaraderie and togetherness demonstrated by the team members on and off the field of play.”
Hunte added: “Special mention to West Indies captain Darren Sammy. He continues to be a calm, dedicated leader and a whole-hearted performer. He has faced many challenges, but has kept his focus, and the team is rallying around him.
“Special congratulations to Sunil Narine, who won the Digicel Man-of-the-Series award. He bowled with guile and demonstrated his brilliance. In just his short time in the West Indies team, he has done very well, and we look forward to him making more major contributions in the future.”
Hunte said he hoped to see the team build on the momentum gained from the limited-overs matches, as they look to overcome the visitors in the two-match Digicel Test Series.
“This would be a fitting end to the end of the season of international cricket here in the West Indies,” he said.
“I also want to applaud Head Coach Ottis Gibson, Team Manager Richie Richardson and the other members of the support staff, as they continue to offer superb guidance and help to the players.”
Hunte said: “Since he came on board two years ago, Ottis has brought a new vision and you could see the team has gradually started to improve. This is all part of the way forward, as we seek to build a strong team capable of challenging and defeating the best in the World and help us scale the heights we once did.”
