Bridgetown.
Workers at the Roebuck Street headquarters of government run Transport Board, walked off the job this morning disrupting the bus services across the island.
The action was taken because of problems related to their gratuity payments as well as pensions.
They were also protesting action taken by the management of the Board against a bus driver during a dispute with a supervisor .
The workers marched to the Barbados Worker Union (BUW) headquarters at Solidarity House to meet with General Secretary Sir Roy Trotman.
After the meeting about a hundred workers stormed out saying they are fed up, not only with the treatmet meted out to them by the Board but with the BWU.
The strike took toll on early morning commuters who used the two terminals in Bridgetown. Corporate Communications Officer with the Board Lynda Holder, told journalists the strike was highly irresponsible, given the fact that the Transport Board is responsible for providing a reliable service to the Barbadian public, schoolchildren and workers.
Holder said based on the action, the public will encounter delays for the rest of the day.
