Windward Islands are Super 50 champions

  The Windward Islands are the new kings of 50 over cricket in the region after defeating Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in the Super 50 Finals West Indies Cricket Board to win the Clive Lloyd Trophy at Kensington Ovall tonight.

CCC were bowled out for 174 in 49.2 overs after being  sent in to bat by Windward Islands, Captain Kyle Corbin batting at number 4 top scored with 46, his best innings of the tournament off 54 balls in 66 mintues, Nekoli Parris contributed 34 .

Left-arm pacer Kenroy Peters was the leading wicket-taker with four for 32 off 8.2 overs including the first three wickets. West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford picked up three for 29 off ten overs.

Chasing a revised target of 134 off 29 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method, after play was delayed for almost three hours at the end of CCC's innings, the Windwards made 134 for one off 22.2 overs.

Devon Smith and Johnson Charles shared an opening partnership of 100 in 16.2 overs. Charles was dismissed 46, Smith made a superb 67 not out, with six fours and two sixes

The outlook in the short to medium term in terms of retail in Bridgetown in particular is not good,” said Abed, who is also a member of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (BCCI) Bridgetown Revitalization Committee.

“We have a triple whammy,” he added. “One, the tourist winter season was not particularly good this year. Two, Government has been moving several of its offices in Bridgetown and its environs out and the catchment area has been reduced. And three, disposable income generally across the board is down. I don’t want to say that this is the perfect storm, but you have the makings of that situation.”

Left-hander Anthony Alleyne, pushing outside the off stump, was caught at the wicket by Johnson Charles off left-arm seamer Kenroy Peters for one (2 balls, 8-1; 1.3 overs) and Chadwick Walton, cutting, was caught at gully by Keddy Lesporis off Peters for 13 (15 balls, 1×4, 1×6; 18-2; 3.2 overs) after he was badly dropped on seven by the same fielder at second slip off left-arm fast bowler Delorn Johnson on seven with the score 11 for one in the third over and left-hander Raymon Reifer, flashing outside the off stump, was caught by Charles off Peters for three (15 balls, 21-3; 7.4 overs) and 40-year-old Floyd Reifer, in what was expected to be his last regional match, was run out for two by a direct throw from bowler Johnson who darted to short midwicket and hit the stumps at the striker's end after the ball was played by Corbin (12 balls, 31-4; 10.3 overs).

Peters had three for 20 off six overs.
