Winners and Losers on Monday Night

So why should there be winners or losers when Guyana’s Election Polling Booths finally close this Monday night?

After all you don’t have to be actually IN a new government if you really want to serve the people of Guyana. There are so many ways to serve meaningfully OUTSIDE of a government status.  Ah, but perhaps ALLAN is not being as FRANK as he should be, in a political context.

Hello TRAKKER readers, this is my final Guyana pre-election DAY-update.  I try to be as constructively NEUTRAL as possible, allowing you to choose for yourself.  So what’s the latest this weekend?  FIRST, THE CONTEXT.

This is the third elections that the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will contest since they won in October 1992, after 28 years in the political exile/wilderness.  This November 28 sees LESS voters on the Roll than in 2006.  Reasons?  Death, Migration and just plan lack of interest.  So WHICH Party stands to gain from the fewer voters on Monday?  Consider too A RECORD phenomenon – this Campaign has seen the HIGHEST-EVER DEFECTIONS and Crossovers to other parties?  Who benefits the most?  I contend that most of the CROSSOVERS CARRY FEW ACTUAL VOTES WITH THEM to their new-found Party-Homes.  They might have taken status, prestige, a little influence and “impression” but it remains to be seen how the voters actually follow(ed).

Personally, TO BE FRANK, I think that this Election will be the closest in a long time.  Because of the smaller Electors Register and because all three of the Big Ones – PPP, APNU and AFC—have brought in personnel and resources from the DIASPORA.   And because more young people will actually VOTE this time and also (simply) because the promises made are so tempting to believe.  I won’t here discuss, the negative, cuss-down-and-response campaigning witnessed so far.  And as I write, FIVE DAYS before Polling Day, there has, so far, been NO SIGNIFICANT POLITICAL CAMPAIGN – INSPIRED VIOLENCE!  All Guyana – EXCEPT those who mistakenly feel they can benefit from such – hope it remains so – before, during AND AFTER POLLING DAY.

HERE NOW ARE SOME excerpts I WROTE FOR ANOTHER JOURNAL EARLIER IN November: On “National Unity” government… APNU’S Granger in Buxton: “APNU is advocating a government of National Unity…”

A.A. Fenty’s Query:  “Could any real government of “National Unity” exclude the PPP, after November 28?  Will the PPP/C be so badly defeated that its Party would represent less Guyanese than the WPA?  Who would the victorious APNU consider to be real representatives of the PPP then?  Discuss, class.

Pre-elections Ponderings…
*1) just imagine on Polling Day you have absolutely no  ID CARD.  I suggest you ask Gecom’s Mr. Gocool Boodhoo about the Oath of Identity!   The Presiding Officer at your Polling Place should still have all your particulars.   But hey! Can this procedure be open to illegalities?  Be careful all!

*2)   Just imagine if Moses Nagamootoo was the PPP/C Presidential candidate what aggressive things would he now be saying of the opposition?

*3) Consider carefully:  what do these Election crossover/defectors take to their new parties –  Van West Charles, Nagamootoo, Bynoe, Burton, Bissessar, Gaumattie Singh, Hamilton, Jagan, Roopnarine?  Votes, status, prestige or credibility?

*4)    Are you really impressed, or even persuaded when you see the  Indo/Afro top two’s heading the three leading Parties?”

I SHALL COMMUNICATE WITH ALL YOU TRAKKER FANS AND CONCERNED GUYANESE VERY EARLY IN DECEMBER.  Stay tuned and logged in!
