Region 9 : The Administration of Region Nine has embarked on an ambitious information technology training programme designed to capture participants from the public sector as well as students and residents of Central Rupununi.
Regional Executive Officer, Ronald Harsawack, told the participants that this training is being rolled out in phases, where Lethem and its environs will benefit initially. The other sub districts will eventually benefit from similar programmes. More than 50 public sector employees originating from the Administrative, Agricultural, Public Works, Education and Health Departments of Region Nine are participating in the programme organised by the region.
Region 9 has been earmarked as a location that will benefit from the President’s one Laptop Per Family Programme, where villages will be used as hubs, for internet access and computer training.
Already Lethem and Region 9 had witnessed the laying of the Fibre Optic Cable that comes from neighbouring Brazil and which is on its way to the coast.
