The theft of cellphones is the main crime commmitted by young Barbadians says Magistrate Barbara Cooke-Alleyne.
According to Cooke-Alleyne, 32 percent of the youth appearing before the Bridgetown Magistrate's Court are there for stealing cellphones. She added they are all male who operate in pairs.
"Normally, you have two boys operating in together, one boy who steals the cellphone and the other one who holds it and sell it but it is always males", says Cooke Alleyne.
Speaking to Trakker Newsafter a the launch of a crime prevention programme at the 3 Ws Oval at the Cave Campus of the University of the West Indies, Cooke-Alleyne said the main offence among girls was wandering.
She stated that drugs crimes were equally among boys and girls.
